After the driving classes are over, many drivers feel like they still lack some information they need to drive safely under any conditions. Annually, many drivers die in car accidents because they did not know how to control their cars in special situations. Driving while at night or when the road is covered with ice and water is an issue not covered by standard driving courses. In France for example, 50 % of all car accidents happen when drivers are behind the steering wheel at night. The main problem for all drivers is the low visibility which does not allow them to properly asses the condition of the road. It also makes it more difficult to see other drivers and for them to see you.

In normal conditions, most of the urban roads have a lighting system. But outside cities, the only thing that can guide you are cat’s eyes and they only mark the center of the road.  In an advanced driving course you learn that the only option you have is to adapt your driving attitude. First of all, you must be sure that the speed you have allows you to stop the car within the area illuminated by your headlights. These signal lights aid you in two ways: they grant you the possibility to see the road ahead of you but at the same time make you noticed by other drivers. This is why it is recommended to use them even during the day or when the streets have an illumination system. This will help other drivers around you see that you are a part of the traffic.
